Summer taxes may be paid at the Lyndon Township office beginning
Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 9:00 AM to noon. Payments may also be
mailed or placed in the locked box at the side of the building
beginning July 1, 2011. Summer taxes are due by Wednesday,
September 14, 2011. There will be a 1% interest charge applied from
September 15 until September 30, 2011. Thereafter an additional 1%
charge will be added each month until March 1, 2012, when taxes will
be turned over to Washtenaw County. Deferments to allow an extension
for payment of taxes until April 30, 2012 are available to taxpayers
whose gross household income for the preceding calendar year did not
exceed $40,000 and meet one of the following criteria:
• 62 years of age or older, including the unmarried surviving spouse
of a person who was 62 years or older at the time of death
• Paraplegic or Quadriplegic
• Eligible Serviceperson, Eligible Veteran, Eligible Widow or Widower
• Blind
• Totally and Permanently Disabled

If you have any questions about your taxes, my regular office hours
are Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to noon.
Tax payments may be placed in the locked green drop box located at the side
of the building with the paved parking lot. (No cash please) This box is checked regularly.
Paid receipts will be mailed or faxed upon request.
Deferment and Hardship Exemption applications for qualified property owners are available
from the treasurer’s office. Please contact the Township office for the proper form.
If you feel that you qualify for a homestead exemption and it is not printed on your tax bill please
contact the treasurer.
Lyndon Township will accept partial payments for taxes from July 1, 2010 until
February 28, 2011. On March 1, 2011 all unpaid property taxes (except personal property)
will be sent to Washtenaw County.
The Lyndon Township Offices will be closed on all holidays.

Summer Taxes You will receive next years summer tax bills the end of
June and they are due and payable July 1, 2011 through September 14, 2011.
A 1% penalty will be applied to your tax bill each month that the bill is
not paid in full. Summer deferment forms are also due in the treasurer's
office by September 1.
Winter Taxes Taxes are due on December 1 each year. They maybe paid by
mail or in person at the Lyndon Town Hall. Please make your check or money
order payable to the Lyndon Township Treasurer. Regular office hours for the Treasurer are Tuesday and Thursday between
9 a.m. and 12 noon. WINTER TAXES are payable without penalty on or before
February 14, 2011.
NOTE: A 3% PENALTY IS APPLIED TO ALL TAX BILLS IF PAID BETWEEN
FEBRUARY 15 and FEBRUARY 28,2011. After March 1, 2011 all taxes are payable
only at the County level. Additional interest and fees are applied. All businesses and commercial property operating in Lyndon Township must paypersonal property taxes on equipment used for their business within the township.
Personal Property taxes (for business and commercial property)
must be paid by March 1, 2011 and are payable ONLY to the Township
Treasurer. The 3% penalty also applies to personal property taxes paid after
February 14 th.
Delinquent Property Taxes Public Act 123 of 1999 changes the way delinquent property taxes are collected.
The County Treasurer may be required to sell a home or farm
for non-payment of taxes after only three years: When unpaid taxes are turned
over to the County Treasurer in March, the County Treasurer will send several
delinquent tax notices over the course of the year, beginning in June. If these taxes remain unpaid for three years, the home or farm may be forfeited
to the County. In addition, a fee of $175 is added to the back taxes and the
interest rate is 1.5 percent per month computed retroactively to March 1st.
If taxes remain unpaid for three years, the home or farm is foreclosed and
sold during a series of auctions. There are agencies in Washtenaw County that can help individuals unable to pay their taxes. Each agency has certain eligibility requirements, but they can provideconcrete information and valuable advice even if an individual is not eligible for financial assistance. The County Treasurer's Office can provide more detailed information specific to your situation if your taxes are delinquent. Address Changes- Please notify the Township Assessor in writing of any
address changes pertinent to tax billing for your property. This includes
the use of mailbox numbers or having a tax bill mailed to a winter address.
Please include your tax ID (parcel) number, address or location of property
and the new address information. Forms are available at the Town Hall. DEFERMENTS - Affidavits for deferment for payment of property tax are
available from the Township Treasurer for senior citizens (over age 65),
paraplegics, quadriplegics,and blind persons.

Property Homestead Declaration If your property should be declared as your Homestead and this has not been done, please contact the Assessor
on a Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Homestead Exemption affidavit must be filed by May 1 for the exemption to be in place for the
December tax bill.
Your property is your Homestead if it is your primary residence
(same as your driver's license and your voter's registration).
You can only declare one property as a Homestead.
